Make every room a living room.

Ask anyone that knows me and they will tell you that I am a bona-fide homebody. I love to turn the four corners of whatever plot of land I'm living on into a retreat where I can cook, entertain, grow, read, make, design + care for my loved ones.

Because life takes place on sofas where acrobatics are performed on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis; in bathtubs that turn into libraries (sorry wet pages) and then become pirate ships or incredibly indulgent personal spas. Where laundry ends up on the floor. Where cat hair becomes airborne. Where we come together again and again as a family.

We also get very very busy. With work, family, partners, chores, caregiving, our efforts to make the world a better place. Distractions and responsibilities can spread us thin requiring us to carve out the time we need to stay centered and balanced.

In-between all our doing, can we create space and intention that allows us to unknit our brow and capture a few moments for ourselves? Keep your bath salts (any bath salts) on a little table next to your tub to remind you that they’re there and happy to help. Relax and light a candle (any candle), pull a chair out into the sunshine, curl up with a blanket, go for a walk, read a book, listen to a podcast, stretch, watch a movie, whatever floats your boat. Never judge downtime. Just take it.

"we would be together and have our books and at night be warm in bed together with the windows open and the stars bright."
— Ernest Hemingway, A Moveable Feast
