Dry Brush

from $12.00

Never underestimate the power of dry brushing. It stimulates your fascia, boosts lymphatic drainage, and leaves you feeling incredibly energized. While you can dry brush at any time of day, it’s most effective before a shower or bath. Start at your feet and use a combination of short and long sweeping strokes, always brushing toward your heart. (Detailed instructions included.)

Dry Brushing has been practiced for hundreds of years in India’s holistic healing system, Ayurveda. Otherwise known as Garshana, it promotes healthy fascia + lymphatic system, removes waste/toxins from your body and promotes health, longevity + beauty.

I love the design of a dry brush with a canvas strap—it’s easy to use with either hand and makes the whole experience more comfortable and effortless.

A few of the many benefits include:

  • Stimulates lymphatic flow / Activates lymphatic drainage

  • Promotes circulation

  • Unclogs pores

  • Exfoliates

  • Reduces inflammation

  • Removes toxins

  • Improves cell regeneration

  • Stimulates nervous system

  • Softens fat deposits

  • Helps produce collagen

  • Prevents ingrown hairs

  • Prevents spider and varicose veins

  • May reduce the appearance of cellulite

  • Reduces appearance of stretch marks

  • Increases energy

  • Smoother skin texture, improves appearance

GENERAL TIPS / READ BEFORE USING

  • It is recommended to dry brush before you get in the shower or bath, but it’s not essential to shower or bathe to reap the benefits. You can dry brush at any time of day. Mornings are especially beneficial as dry brushing increases your energy levels.

  • If you don’t dry brush daily, stimulate the lymph node zones on your body by gently karate-chopping or slapping these areas BEFORE you start.

    • Popliteal Lymph Nodes: behind the kee

    • Inguinal Lymph Nodes: groin, where your leg meets your pelvis

    • Epitrochlear Lymph Nodes: soft inner arm, crook of the elbow

    • Axillary Lymph Nodes: armpits

  • If you dry brush daily, you may not need to take the extra step of stimulating the above 4 lymph node areas on your body — but it certainly doesn’t inhibit the process.

  • You can use firm or gentle strokes, depending on your skin sensitivity and/or how often your dry brush (the more you do it, the harder you can brush). You can also use either long + sweeping strokes, or short strokes, going over each area two or three times. Long sweeping strokes are particularly effective for lymphatic drainage while short or circular strokes are better for a relaxing self-massage and/or improving digestion.

DRY BRUSHING INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Start at your feet and brush up your calves, using short, gentle strokes. Work your way toward the Popliteal Lymph Nodes (behind your knee) always moving toward your heart.

  2. Brush up your thigh, moving toward your Inguinal Lymph Nodes.

  3. On your stomach, below your belly button, brush downward toward the hip joint (Inguinal Lymph Nodes). Above your belly button, brush upwards toward your heart. You can additionally brush in a clockwise direction on your stomach to promote better digestion.

  4. When you start on your arms, begin at the hands and work toward your Epitrochlear Lymph Nodes.

  5. It should not hurt, but do be firm. Dry brushing takes about 3-5 minutes.

  6. Wash your brush weekly if you dry brush every day, monthly if you dry brush on a weekly basis.
